The Best Dollar That You’ll Spend Detailing Your Car

If you asked me “What’s the best bang for the buck of all the detailing stuff you own?”, I would have to say it’s a dollar store toilet brush. Yes, the inimitable toilet brush is the best value for me for three reasons.

1. It costs $1.00 (at the dollar store of course)

2. It is awesome for cleaning BEHIND the spokes of most modern wheels, which tend to be the hardest thing to clean these days.

3. Nothing quite beats the novelty and fun factor when you whip out a toilet brush for cleaning wheels.

The Famous Dollar Store Toilet Brush

Because car detailing is a hobby (some would say a mental illness) for me, I’m always on the lookout for tools, techniques and products that can be used to keep cars looking like new. If it can clean stains (or other unmentionables from your bowl – don’t you think it can do a great job for your wheels too?) I love the toilet brush because it works so well for the job of cleaning alloy wheels. The diameter of the brush core is about 3/4″, which makes it near perfect for getting into the tightest spaces. The plastic is soft, which makes it clear coat friendly (most modern alloy wheels are clear coated) and the bristles are just the right firmness for scrubbing brake dust from hard to reach places that would otherwise surely remove the skin from your knuckles.

I like to use a little Simply Green and let dirty wheels soak for about 5 minutes before hitting them with the brush. There’s got to be a billion brush types out there, but one thing I’m convinced of for sure, is that toilet brushes are a must have for any garage party!

Oh, one more thing…please make sure the toilet brush you use is new. It would be against the garage party code of conduct to use a retired toilet bowl scrubber on your beloved wheels.

  1. Crap, with the narrow spoke on those M5 wheels you almost need a toothbrush! LOL!
