So you want to build a business online?
I have learned many many things the last 90 days in my assessment of the blogosphere. I have much to tell. Covered some interesting “ground”.
I’ve interviewed, studied and watched total winners and some fantastic losers.
It is likely that I’m going to write about this because it’s a subject that I’m getting jazzed about after what I’ve seen.
I’m onto something here… according to you. Not me, however.
Anyway, if you want to build a business online - you’re gonna need patience.
Serious patience.
Because people are jumping into this pool at an alarming rate.
Best I can tell, the first and last quality of the successful ones is patience. Buckets of the stuff. Huge, earth moving equipment-John-Deere-backhoe-sized buckets of it. They have staying power and just keep at it. (I’ll detail what I think “it” looks like in some follow up posts).
The losers tried to rush a process that clearly can’t be rushed and have badly burned their brands. Sucks to be them right now. Sold out. There is no quick cash online. In fact, I am 100% sure that business online actually moves quite slowly.
Yes - the collective business online seems to move quickly. However, I am now certain, the opposite is in fact true.
If you are discouraged that things aren’t moving fast enough for ya… stop sweating it. I’ve good some good news.
The internet rewards persistence. In fact - all your audience wants to know (assuming they like you) is that you’re gonna be around. That you’re not gonna stand them up.
So keep going!
Nobody wants to invest in a relationship that isn’t going to last.
So “how long?” you ask. I think years. That’s right. If you want to build a biz online / monetize your blog…whatever… I think you need to be prepared to put a few YEARS into it before you are able to call it a business…and make some cash.
Based on how many people are going online AND my research of those you would call successful - I think an 18 to 24 month trajectory is realistic.
I have the evidence to prove it.
In the meantime, you need to build and build and build. Post and post. Write about your passions, tweak your site. Do whatever it is that you “do”.
Just remember, that for now…no one is listening or cares about you.
To be successful online, you will need two parts patience and one part persistence. When you feel impatient - counteract it with activity.
And you will succeed.
More to come…
